Greed.
She stood tall, her face concealed by the mask of confidence she wore in front of others. The strong gushes of wind stung her eyes and slapped her cheeks, as though trying to destroy the facade preventing her from entering reality. She gritted her teeth, her eyes gleaming with determination. “Perfection,” she reminded herself. Her gaze remained steady as she took her steps into the office, her stage for performance.
Everyone watched her enter in awe. She was known for her insatiable greed for personal power and perfection. She extorted respect from everyone. Her poker face revealed no thoughts and emotions, only arrogance. Everyone worshipped her; it was a rule.
He stared hard at her, tired of listening to the endless criticisms of her. He smirked at her posture, which was too erect for her own good. He smirked at her dressing, which was smart but her expressionless face ruined the effect. Greed; it was oozing out of her.
She could see his eyes narrow as she approached him. Her breaths became shaky, but she did not lose confidence. She stepped right in front of him and gazed straight into his eyes, daring him to speak ill of her. She could feel the crowd behind her holding their breaths. The anxiety ran thick in the air, and his blank expression only seemed to mock the rush of thoughts and emotions flooding her mind. Greed; she wanted him to respect her. She wanted his respect to quench the greed of her power-hungry self.
After what seemed like an eternity, she finally gave up her hopes on receiving a shower of respect. She cleared her throat, creating echoes that sprinted around the room like a relay race. “Congratulations on your promotion,” she said, her deep voice filled with anything but humility and sincerity.
He gave her a wicked grin. She looked straight at him, and he had the greed to find out the thousand things going on in her mind. He had the greed to make a mockery of her. His thoughts were extinguished when she held her hand out. “Thank you,” he said, as he gave her cold hands a firm grip and shook.
She walked away quietly, her posture slightly relaxed after the burden was lifted off her shoulders. He smiled triumphantly, his face filled with content. His greed for power had finally won the cold war of office politics. He was satisfied.JJC? I'm lovin' it. (:
With Love,
